Multiple vendors for your software project?
on January 09, 2010
If you have a project, it might be important not to outsource the work to more than one vendor. It might be tempting to use more than one vendor. Especially if the vendor doesnt have sufficient human resources to deliver your project within the expected time frame.
But dont go there. With multiple vendors, there is [...]

Buruknya jam kerja fleksible
on November 14, 2009
Outsourcing 101: How much time you have to invest
on October 31, 2009
We often feel like John, a hypothetical developer whose story goes like this. John goes to Jane's (his boss) office everyday, but there is noone in the office, no colleagues, and no Jane. John gets an instruction on what to do once or twice a week on a short email. John works on the to-dos, deliver the results, but he very rarely gets a response to his reports. What's worse, when he asks questions, the questions left unanswered for days, although it's blocking him to complete the task.
Dont ever let your outsourcing relationship goes like this! The disadvantages are ...
Outsourcing 101: Deciding when to outsource if you are a programmer
on October 12, 2009
Basically outsourcing is the same as hiring more employees.
The difference is just a few zeros in your payroll bill.
If you own a small (or solo) consultancy business, who have been getting regular consultancy works, and you are now looking to grow your consultancy business, outsourcing is a good option.
First however, because you are a programmer yourself, you have to manage your expectation.
You may most likely notice that you can do what you outsource yourself, in a much faster speed.
This actually will be true even if you ...
Even the best athlete need a coach
on August 01, 2009
As recent as 8 months ago, we dont have the notion of 'Managers'. Everyone works as Engineers and Developers.
The upside is, everyone is billable. The downside is, of course, quality is unchecked, productivity is unchecked, organization and clients are not managed, because there are almost noone has time to do these non-billable, and yet important other things.
Another notable negative effect is motivation. Some clients dont have to time to manage and communicate with the engineers. So the engineers work with little pressure, with noone overlooking their work, no reward / penalty, no meaning to their work, and that ...
The asset of a programmer
on July 07, 2009
All professional service firms and consultants have one most imporant asset. This asset is their skills. Skills, like other assets, depreciate over time. Freelancers and single fighters in particular, need to understand this.
Let’s take a freelance programmer for example. You look for projects, you do the projects, and when you are almost done with your project you look for another one, and so on. You barely have time to other things besides looking for a project and doing it. You may make much money, your skill in a particular area becomes deeper, you work on the stuff ...
Communicasia 2009
on June 23, 2009
I went to CommunicAsia 2009 exhibition in Singapore last week.
It's my first time visiting such a big event, and it really is inspiring.
I am fortunate to meet similar, bigger IT services company like WGS in the exhibition whom I chat with and learnt a lot.
Two of the IT outsourcing companies are from Phillipines, and two are from Vietnam.
They range from 25 engineer-strong, to 900 engineer-strong, charging from $13 to $17 per hour, with a wide range of technology expertise offered.
It's a shame that no Indonesian outsourcing companies ...
Our vision
on May 12, 2009
As mentioned on our 'about us' page, our vision is to become one of the best companies to work for in Indonesia with innovative HR strategies. And to become one of the biggest IT services company in South East Asia.
In this blog post let me elaborate. First of all, we want to become one of the best companies to work for. I hate to see brain drain, whereby the smartest young people in Indonesia choose to leave the country after their graduation, to Singapore mostly. The main reasons are simple, it's that the salary offered, and the standard ...
The WGS ways
on April 21, 2009
In this first blog post that I'm writing, I want to introduce more of our company values. These are the values that I personally believe, and that I share with all of our employees, and that is compulsory to be upheld.
Integrity
This is the most important one. I believe even without formal legal bindings, everyone has a moral obligation to do the right thing. Simple ficitional example: if A lends B a big sum of money, and without any legal forms signed, B should pay A back on time without being asked. If we work with a client of ...
